Lab Tours: X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer
The tour of the x-ray photoelectron spectrometer facility (XPS) will include an introduction to XPS technique and an explanation the instrumentation. The tour will also include a demonstration of how the photoelectron spectroscopy can be used to identify various elements present in a sample and their chemical state. The use of angle resolved spectroscopy and argon ion etching to understand the changes in the chemical composition of the sample, as a function of depth will be explained.
