~ Engineering Challenge ~
Maker/Breaker Incorporated
In this camp, students will learn what it’s like to be in the shoes of an engineer; they will experience all aspects of the engineering process in order to complete a final project. This includes:
- doing research,
- proposing concepts,
- prototyping,
- designing,
- testing, and
- redesigning.
The task will be to construct a model bridge to meet given specifications by a deadline, and the final models will compete against others. These bridges will have to withstand an applied load while maintaining peak efficiency.
Students will be in ‘firms’ of three, in which they will have job titles and specific roles, though all will participate in design and development of the models. Teamwork and specialization are skills that will mature throughout the course of the camp. Students will break their bridges, but they’ll make friends and learn engineering skills through experience.
