Volunteer

UMD-MRSEC welcomes University of Maryland alumni, faculty, graduates, and undergraduate students to participate in MRSEC education outreach programs. Previous volunteers have found the experience of sharing the excitement of science and engineering to be especially rewarding.

If you are in interested in participating in any of the programs listed below and would like more information, contact Alex Prasertchoung, Education Outreach Coordinator at spraser@umd.edu.

Science Project and Mentoring:
Work with middle or high school student in developing, planning, and analyzing their science fair project. Meetings will take place in the fall on the UMD campus.

Student Science Conference Mentoring:
Mentor a middle school student in taking their science fair project to the next level of presentation. Attend 3 mentor meetings in the month of April and the conference tentatively planned for May 3rd. Mentor meetings and the conference will take place on the UMD campus.

MRSEC Science and Engineering Days and Science Road Shows:
Be part of a team of presenters explaining science demonstrations and hands-on activities to pre-college students audiences. The science shows are fun and engaging, and help students better understand concepts being taught in their classroom. Shows are scheduled to take place at local schools and on UMD campus throughout the year.

Lab Tours:
Share the excitement of your research area with undergraduate and high school students.
